Hi Trisha,

Hope you are well.

We came back from our holidays in Mauritius on Sunday and the only compliant we had was that they were … too short!  Thank you for helping us arrange our time off in such a beautiful and relaxing place. I am sure we will work with you in the future.

All the best,
Jakub

Never used Avista until this year. We have had two holidays and Avista organised, planned and beat any quote I got online. Absolutely brilliant service. Friendly, professional, organised and ALWAYS contacted us throughout. They took all our concerns and worries and dealt with everything. We felt safe knowing they were there if we needed them. I cannot thank Trish, Donna, Pam, Mary and Nicola enough. Would recommend them without hesitation and will definitely be speaking to them again about our next adventure. Thanks Ladies.

Hi Sam
We are back from our wonderful trip to Canada. Just thought I would give you a bit of feedback. It might help if you are advising anyone else on trips over there.

Wow! What a great trip you put together for us. It was a great balance of different kinds of cities plus the nights “in the woods”, giving us a view of both French and English areas (although most people seem to be fluent in both).
Montreal and Quebec (the French bits) are both quite different from anywhere else we have ever been.
Montreal gave us neck ache on the first day looking up at all the amazing skyscrapers. We were lucky enough to encounter a comedy festival in the streets downtown which was great fun in the evenings. On the St Laurence river so some great views across the water.
Quebec is a total contrast, very “French provincial” in style with a vast park land area (Plains of Abraham) the site of battles in the 18th/19th Century, with a stunning view down over the St Laurence river. Very pedestrian/cycle/rollerblade friendly. A great mix of modern and early 20th century architecture. The weather was amazing. We really enjoyed this city and could easily have stayed much longer.
The train journeys between Montreal-Quebec and Quebec-Ottawa were really efficient and gave great views of the towns and countryside beautiful all the way – everything is so green. Time passed quickly (4 and 6 hours!)

Ottawa initially seemed a bit of a “hick” town but I think we just walked the wrong way. The canalised River Rideau provides a great long walk and took us to some of the more modern areas. We missed a parade of a giant mechanised spider and a dragon by a day. Fascinating parliament area (including a traditional British marching pipe band complete with bearskin hats one day, and a brilliant Chinese children’s orchestra playing on another day) and one of the most moving war memorial/group of statues I have ever seen. They are very keen on using statues and sculptures/street art to commemorate everything in their history. Also worth knowing is their love of street paintings/graffiti/murals – some “official” and a lot of informal stuff, incredibly creative and varied. It seems to stem mainly from the Chinese communities but it is all over the place.

Car hire very efficient (no mention of buying additional insurance!) and I coped with the driving – they are very leisurely drivers so no worries about keeping up. Pedestrians are well respected throughout the places we went so cars travel quite slowly in towns.

Arowhon Pines is a bit of paradise (with biting flies). Stunning setting and everything included (I had expected to pay for food at least). The food is 5-star – venison, top quality steak and fish, lobster, basically “all you can eat”. For future reference they have no drinks licence at all, so most people take their own supplies of wine which they will serve for you and provide fridges and ice buckets. We decided not to pick anything up on the way but that was no problem – endless tea/coffee, juice and water available. All of the facilities are free – canoes, sailboats, kayaks, tennis, swimming in the lake, and a recent-release movie shown every night. We went on a number of lovely walks in the woods, did get bitten by mozzies, mainly on the first day when we were lax with the Deet. Apparently we had (luckily) missed a really bad week of black biting flies a couple of weeks back. There are countless other walks/trails throughout Algonquin Park available for more seasoned walkers. It is also worth knowing the cabins are generally shared – we had three rooms in ours so shared with another family. We had our own room and bathroom, with a shared “sitting room” which we didn’t use really. You can probably get private cabins too. Very comfortable although on the last afternoon we had a thunderstorm and consequent power cut which was still going on the next day when we left. They were able to cook but cabins had only battery powered hurricane lamps.

Toronto is another high rise city – more American this time, including trams/streetcars - although less stylish than Montreal. Very multicultural (even more so than London apparently, and better integration I think) there was a Caribbean festival and an Indonesian one going on while we were there. Lots of construction going on. It is set on Lake Ontario so although hot, it does get refreshed by the air off the water so not unhealthily polluted. There is a complete “city under the city” – a vast shopping mall built beneath the streets that we wouldn’t have found if we hadn’t read about it – amazing.

The trip to Niagara Falls was a great treat – it didn’t include the boat trip which we paid on top (only £25 for the two of us so not bad and it was certainly worth paying for – all very well organised on the Canadian side) but did include a visit to see the Falls, also Niagara on the Lake (a very pretty tourist village) and a short trip to a wine college with wine-tasting. (Incidentally the coach company had us booked for the wrong day, so we were lucky to get on the trip: sorted by the hotel for us in the end – have words please!). The only bad bit was turning a corner in the town by the Falls and finding BLACKPOOL transplanted there!!!! Ghastly tourist street.

I have to say all of the hotels were good and really well-situated near to lively areas, and with good views, and all the transport arrangements went without a hitch. We were really well looked after at every step – the Canadians are so hospitable. The cost of meals was very reasonable everywhere, and the quality always outstanding – many were “the best of” some things (eg best pizza, best prawns, best steak) I have eaten anywhere in my life!

All in all this was a fabulous trip which we will not forget in a hurry. Ed is ploughing through 2400 photos and I have about 500! I will definitely be recommending Canada to many other people. The only problem it gives us is “where next?” Watch this space!

Thank you so much for organising it for us.
Best wishes

Booked our holiday with Avista Travel, we are part of a bigger group flying from a different airport and some of us are flying at different times.

Nothing has been too much trouble for Donna and her super team. Always on hand to answer my random questions and the service has been way better than you would get from a larger travel company where you're just "another traveller".

My tickets came last week and in the envelope was a compliment slip to say that the seats had been pre-booked and the booking reference so I didn't have to hunt for it if I wanted to change them. Great service - will definitely come back again to book the next one.

Just got back from a 7 week trip to New Zealand travelling around both North and South islands with a few days in Sydney to start the trip off. Trisha and the team at Clitheroe organised all my flights and hotels and did a first class job. A great team always efficient and ready to got the extra mile for the client.

If you do this adventure it's 23 hours flying time so go Business Class with Emirates.

10 out of 10 Clitheroe.
Will be back soon to book my next trip.
